I founded Acrylic Dreams
, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, in 2017 in order to combine my love of art with impactful work. As a Middle Easterner, I was particularly troubled by the Western rhetoric surrounding the Syrian refugee crisis, and I wanted to immediately take action. Acrylic Dreams provides relevant updates on the progress of the crisis and poses as a vehicle for paintings, digital art, and photos created by high school artists. Additionally, Acrylic Dreams has partnered with three local corporations to organize art therapy sessions for young refugees in the US. In under a year, the Acrylic Dreams team has raised over $5,600 for Small Projects Istanbul, which supplies educational opportunities to Syrian refugee children in Turkey, and expanded over twelve states. We hope to continue our work and see the end of the refugee crisis within our lifetimes.
